Acupuncture for General Health in St Albans

Sometimes the body just needs support — whatever the reason.

While women’s hormonal health is my core specialism, I also treat a wide range of general health conditions. Many patients come initially for fertility or menopause support and find acupuncture so effective that they continue for other issues — or refer family members and friends.

If you’re not sure whether acupuncture can help with your condition, get in touch. I’ll always be honest with you.

Conditions I treat:

Pain  – Acupuncture is one of the most well-researched therapies for pain. NICE (the National Institute for Health and Care Excellence) recommends acupuncture for chronic primary pain. I treat:

  • Lower back pain, sciatica and disc issues
  • Neck and shoulder pain
  • TMJ, headaches and migraines
  • Joint pain — including tennis elbow, knee, hip and arthritis
  • Sports injuries and post-surgical recovery
  • Nerve pain and neuropathy
  • Fibromyalgia and chronic pain conditions
  • Pelvic and period-related pain

Stress, anxiety and sleep – Chronic stress is one of the most common things I see — and one of the most responsive to acupuncture. The deep physiological relaxation produced during a session has a lasting effect on the nervous system.

  • Anxiety, depression and chronic stress
  • Insomnia and disrupted sleep
  • Burnout and exhaustion
  • Low mood
  • Tension headaches

Hay fever and immune health – Acupuncture is remarkably effective for hay fever, particularly when started before the season begins. I also treat recurrent colds, immune weakness, and immune-related conditions.

Digestive health – IBS, bloating, digestive discomfort and nausea.

Other conditions – Fatigue, bladder and urinary issues, skin conditions linked to stress or hormonal triggers, and post-viral fatigue.

If you’re dealing with any of these issues, acupuncture could be an effective, natural treatment option. Contact me to book a consultation and discover how acupuncture can support your journey to better health and well-being.

Frequently asked questions

Many patients notice improvement within two to four sessions. For acute conditions, results can be faster. For chronic or long-standing pain, a course of six to eight sessions is typical, with monthly maintenance for ongoing conditions.

Yes. Acupuncture activates the parasympathetic nervous system — the body’s rest-and-restore state — which directly reduces anxiety. Many patients notice a significant shift in anxiety levels after their first session, with the effect building over a course of treatment.

Yes, and it’s particularly effective when started before the hay fever season begins. Many of my patients see dramatic improvements — reduced symptoms without the drowsiness of antihistamines.

Currently NICE recommends acupuncture for chronic primary pain. Availability on the NHS is limited, but as a BAcC-registered practitioner, my treatments may be covered by private health insurance. Check your policy before booking.
